Radiation hard monolithic CMOS sensors with small electrodes for High Luminosity LHC

2019

Abstract The upgrade of the tracking detectors for the High Luminosity-LHC (HL-LHC) requires the development of novel radiation hard silicon sensors. The development of Depleted Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors targets the replacement of hybrid pixel detectors with radiation hard monolithic CMOS sensors. We designed, manufactured and tested radiation hard monolithic CMOS sensors in the TowerJazz 180 nm CMOS imaging technology with small electrodes pixel designs. These designs can achieve pixel pitches well below current hybrid pixel sensors (typically 50 ×  50 μ m ) for improved spatial resolution. Monolithic sensors in our design allow to reduce multiple scattering by thinning to a total si…

Application of colour magnification technique for revealing skin microcirculation changes under regional anaesthetic input

2013

In this work the colour magnification technique was applied for monitoring of palm skin microcirculation changes under peripheral (Plexus Brachialis with axiliary access) Regional Anaesthesia (RA). During the RA procedure 20 minute video of patient’s forearm was taken at steady light conditions. Video content was processed offline by custom developed Matlab software with build-in colour magnification algorithm that performs temporal filtering of video sequence near-heartbeat frequency, spatial decomposition of video and amplification of pulsatile signal in every pixel of skin image. Using this method, we are able to visualize the subcutaneous microcirculation changes in high spatial resolut…

MR-Perfusionsbildgebung des Herzens mit TrueFISP

2001

OBJECTIVE Development and test of a saturation-recovery TrueFISP (SR-Trufi) pulse sequence for myocardial perfusion MR imaging (MRI) using improved gradient hardware. MATERIAL AND METHODS Measurements were performed on a 1.5 T scanner with prototype gradients (50 mT/m, minimum rise time 300 microseconds). T1-weighted first-pass MRI of Gd-DTPA (0.025 mumol/kg) kinetics in the myocardium was performed using an SR-Trufi pulse sequence (TR/TE/alpha = 2.6 ms/1.4 ms/55 degrees) with a saturation preparation of TD = 30 ms before the TrueFISP readout. Measurements were performed in volunteers (n = 4) and in a pig model of chronic ischemia (n = 1). RESULTS In phantoms, the signal intensity was linea…

Down-Scaling Modis Vegetation Products with Landsat GAP Filled Surface Reflectance in Google Earth Engine

2020

High spatial resolution vegetation products are fundamental in different fields, such as improving the understanding of crop seasonality at regional scales. Here, two new vegetation products such as the Leaf Area Index (LAI) and the Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR) are downscaled at continental scales. A novel HIghly Scalable Temporal Adaptive Reflectance Fusion Model (HIS-TARFM) is used to generate the gap-free time series of Landsat surface reflectance data by fusing MODIS and Landsat reflectance for the contiguous United States. An artificial neural network is trained to capture the relationship between the gap free Landsat surface reflectance and the MODI…

Parallel laser micromachining based on diffractive optical elements with dispersion compensated femtosecond pulses

2013

We experimentally demonstrate multi-beam high spatial resolution laser micromachining with femtosecond pulses. The effects of chromatic aberrations as well as pulse stretching on the material processed due to diffraction were significantly mitigated by using a suited dispersion compensated module (DCM). This permits to increase the area of processing in a factor 3 in comparison with a conventional setup. Specifically, 52 blind holes have been drilled simultaneously onto a stainless steel sample with a 30 fs laser pulse in a parallel processing configuration.

High-sensitivity U–Pb rutile dating by secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) with an O2+ primary beam

2012

Abstract We present a secondary ionization mass spectrometry (SIMS) technique for U–Pb geochronology of rutile at high spatial resolution and sensitivity using an O2+ primary ion beam coupled with surficial O2 gas deposition (O2 flooding). The O2+ beam is ~ 10 × more intense than conventionally applied O− or O2− beams at the same lateral resolution. Natural and synthetic rutile was determined to be conductive under O2+ bombardment, permitting higher excavation (sputter) rates than conventional SIMS using negatively charged O-beams without detrimental effects of sample charging. The main advantage of O2+ is rapid sputtering at shallow primary ion penetration depths. This minimizes the contri…

Nanoscale inhomogeneity of the Schottky barrier and resistivity inMoS2multilayers

2015

Conductive atomic force microscopy (CAFM) is employed to investigate the current injection from a nanometric contact (a Pt coated tip) to the surface of ${\text{MoS}}_{2}$ thin films. The analysis of local current-voltage characteristics on a large array of tip positions provides high spatial resolution information on the lateral homogeneity of the $\mathrm{tip}/{\text{MoS}}_{2}$ Schottky barrier ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Phi}}}_{B}$ and ideality factor $n$, and on the local resistivity ${\ensuremath{\rho}}_{\text{loc}}$ of the ${\text{MoS}}_{2}$ region under the tip. Here, ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Phi}}}_{B}=300\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}24\phantom{\rule{0.28em}{0ex}}\text{meV}, n=1.60\ifmmode…

Deceleration in the Expansion of SN 1993J

1997

A rarity among supernova, SN 1993J in M81 can be studied with high spatial resolution. Its radio power and distance permit VLBI observations to monitor the expansion of its angular structure. This radio structure was previously revealed to be shell-like and to be undergoing a self-similar expansion at a constant rate. From VLBI observations at the wavelengths of 3.6 and 6 cm in the period 6 to 42 months after explosion, we have discovered that the expansion is decelerating. Our measurement of this deceleration yields estimates of the density profiles of the supernova ejecta and circumstellar material in standard supernova explosion models.

SU-GG-T-70: A Dosimetric Study of the MicroSelectron HDR Ir-192 Brachytherapy Source

2010

Purpose: Recently the manufacturer of the mHDR‐v2 HDR Ir‐192 brachytherapy source clarified design changes that may alter the existing dosimetric data for this source. The object of this study was to obtain new dose rate tables following the TG‐43 formalism and to provide these data in close proximity to the source with high spatial resolution including the electron dosimetric contributions from Ir‐192 disintegration. Methods and Material: To study the source we used three different Monte Carlo codes: MCNP5, GEANT4, and Penelope. The source was located inside a 40 cm radius water phantom. Dose and kerma were obtained using 0.1 mm thick voxels to provide high‐resolution dosimetry near the so…
